Through My Lens

"To see the wild is to listen to its heartbeat."

I’m Tania Cholwich, a wildlife photographer, storyteller, and lifelong lover of the wild.
For me, photography is far more than taking a picture.
It is about connection – the moment an elephant looks into your eyes, the silence before a lion moves, the golden light falling across the plains, or the quiet encounter with a person whose story stays with you long after you have left.
My love for animals and photography has taken me on extraordinary journeys across Africa – from the vast plains of the Maasai Mara and the giants of Amboseli, to the landscapes, wildlife and communities that make this continent so incredibly beautiful.
Through My Lens is my way of sharing those journeys with you.
Every photograph holds a moment, a feeling and a story.
Some speak of wild beauty and freedom. Others speak of strength, gentleness, connection and the incredible people I have been privileged to meet along the way.
Africa has given me far more than photographs.
It has given me memories, friendships, lessons, laughter, tears and a deeper understanding of what it means to truly stop, look and feel.
I invite you to step Through My Lens and experience a little of the Africa I love – its wildlife, its landscapes, its people and the unforgettable moments that have captured my heart.
Come wander Africa with me.

More than a book. More than photographs. This is a love letter to a legend.
Through My Lens: A Love Letter To Craig is an emotional and deeply personal tribute to Craig, one of Africa’s last magnificent Super Tuskers.
Through my lens, I was privileged to photograph Craig and capture moments of his life in the wild.
But these photographs became so much more than images. They became memories of a remarkable elephant whose story deserves to live on.
Craig represented something precious – the magnificent giant of Africa, carrying generations of wisdom, strength and history in his enormous tusks.
To stand near him, watch him walk through Amboseli and photograph him was an honour I will carry in my heart forever.
This book is my love letter to Craig. It shares the emotions, memories and moments behind my photographs, and the profound connection I felt while witnessing this extraordinary animal.
It is about love, loss, privilege, respect and the responsibility we have to remember the giants who came before us.
Craig is no longer walking beneath the African sky, but his story does not have to end.
My greatest wish is that his legacy continues – that someone who never had the privilege of seeing Craig will open these pages, meet him through my lens, feel something in their heart, and understand why his life mattered.
This is a book for anyone who loves elephants, Africa and the wild places that still remain. But above all, it is a reminder that every life leaves a footprint, and some footprints are simply too powerful to ever disappear.
I photographed Craig through my lens.
I loved him through my heart.
I lost him with sadness.
And now I share his story so his legacy can live forever.
Craig was not photographed to be owned.
Craig was photographed to be remembered.
